The Build Class


The Build Class with Ben Hayes, Sponsored by Vortex Optics
Students will start with a fully machined build kit put together by Ben Hayes. A mill and lathe machine will NOT be used in the class. The students can expect to use a variety of tools including: rotary tools, hand files, belt sander, and drill press.
This class will cover the following:
- Basic shop safety
- Hand tool techniques
- Barrel lug fitting
- Small parts fitting
- Beveling and polishing chamber and feed ramp
- Blending/beveling for comfort and styling
- Trigger group fitment/trigger job
- Sight installation
- Pistol shooting technique, test firing and tuning
- Stock images and/or Text available for laser engraving
- Prep for PVD finish, (sanding, polishing, media blasting)
- Every student will receive a Vortex red dot courtesy of Vortex Optics
The goal of this class is to have a complete high end working pistol ready for finish at the end of the class. Once completed the team will send the students' pistols out for PVD finishing. The PVD finishing process will take approximately 6 weeks. Once the guns arrive back from the finisher, The Hayes team will install the front and rear sight, polish the feed ramp, install ejector and ship the students' pistols back to the preferred FFL. The pistol will be shipped completely disassembled in a custom hardcase. All pistols will be engraved with The Build Class logo.
Class fee: $8,500
Three day class. 8:30am to 5pm (times may vary depending on class progress)
Class capacity: maximum of 6 students.
Payment options: Pay in full up front or $1,000 deposit with full payment due 2 weeks prior to class.
Cancellation policy: Any cancellations 2 months prior to class will incur $500 cancellation fee. If a cancellation occurs within 2 weeks of the class a $1,000 cancellation fee will be applied.
Lunch will be provided by local restaurants. Typically BBQ, Tacos, Cajun cuisine and more. If you have any dietary restrictions please let us know at least one week prior to class.
