The Build Class with Ben Hayes, Sponsored by Vortex Optics
Students will start with a fully machined build kit put together by Ben Hayes. A mill and lathe machine will NOT be used in the class. The students can expect to use a variety of tools including: rotary tools, hand files, belt sander, and drill press.
The goal of this class is to have a complete high end working pistol ready for finish at the end of the class. Once completed the team will send the students’ pistols out for PVD finishing. The PVD finishing process will take approximately 6 weeks. Once the guns arrive back from the finisher, The Hayes team will install the front and rear sight, polish the feed ramp, install ejector and ship the students’ pistols back to the preferred FFL. The pistol will be shipped completely disassembled in a custom hardcase. All pistols will be engraved with The Build Class logo.
- Three day class. 8:30am to 5pm (times may vary depending on class progress)
- Class capacity: maximum of 6 students.
- Payment options: Pay in full up front or $1,000 deposit with full payment due 2 weeks prior to class.
- Cancellation policy: Any cancellations 2 months prior to class will incur $500 cancellation fee. If a cancellation occurs within 2 weeks of the class a $1,000 cancellation fee will be applied.
- Participants must be 18 and older
We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason. If we do refuse service, that person will receive a 100% refund.
Lunch will be provided by local restaurants. Typically BBQ, Tacos, Cajun cuisine and more. If you have any dietary restrictions please let us know at least one week prior to class.

First off let me start by saying I rarely leave a review for anything. When I do, it’s because it is earned. In this case, it was earned in a positive manner. I had the fortune and privilege of attending the build class in July. I had no idea what to expect regarding the outline of this class. After attending this course, I will say this was done first class, second to none. The best class I have been to period. Ben, you are a master gunsmith and a legend in this industry. Ben was knowledgeable, patient and explained how to build a cobra pistol from scratch thoroughly. After spending 3 full days with Ben, as great of a gunsmith he obviously is, he is an even better man. This build class gave me an opportunity to know Ben on a personal level and pick his brain on the philosophy behind his builds. He never hesitated or held back on details. The hands on time in this class was amazing. After completing this class you will have a better understanding of the immense amount of work that goes into each and every pistol. The experience this course provides is priceless! If you are one of the lucky few that have a chance to attend this course, DO NOT hesitate. You will regret missing out on a once in a lifetime experience. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of this build class Ben!
